Imprisoned

You get a note from a graphics programmer that they've kidnapped your friend and are planning to force them to manually render pixels to the screen for the rest of their life! (I guess they've really gotten fed up with their GPU....) But when you arrive at the scene, all you find are a nametag and some scraps of paper that appear to be from some kind of diary. It seems that your friend has managed to free themselves from their kidnapper. What did they use in order to escape?

1. As I woke up today, I met some new friends for the first time! I have a feeling we'll be friends for the rest of our lives. (5 words)
2. Today was very upsetting for me. I learned something I didn't want to believe and reacted very strongly to it. But at least we found a new friend to join the four of us! (4 words)
3. What a strange day! My friends got sick, so I went off to help them and ran into a mysterious stranger who seemed like a friend. I was very surprised when I found out who he was, and I had this sort of sixth sense that we could be friends anyway, but sadly it seemed like I was proven wrong. (3 words)
4. Another strange thing happened today. We met somebody who I believed initially, but then we discovered she'd been lying to everybody the whole time. Fortunately, once we realized this, we were able to figure out a way to prevent too much damage. When our plan worked, I was on cloud nine -- literally! (2 words)
5. We met an old friend today! Well, I'd never met him, but my friends knew him quite well. Unfortunately there was a bit of conflict between me and my friends for a second because of something I did, but everything turned out okay in the end. (5 words)
6. Good things and bad things happened today. We'd been travelling for a while and managed to reach our destination, but we didn't immediately find the people we expected here. Instead, we found some people we wouldn't want to touch with a ten-foot pole! But we managed to use the classic excuse of a fake illness so they'd leave us alone, and we eventually found the person we came here for. (3 words)
7. Remember that sixth sense I was talking about earlier? Well, a while ago I had the same kind of feeling I had then about being friends with somebody, except it was about somebody I hadn't even met. But I met her today, and she agreed to join us on her travels! (3 words)
8. Nobody knew why, but we felt like we were being chased today... it turns out this crazy group of people was after us! Their leader seemed almost evil, like she embodied the seven deadly sins or something. We were separated from our newest friend for a short while, but she rejoined us by the end of the day. (2 words)
